Urban Cookhouse

The Owners of Urban Cookhouse, Farm to Table Inc., turned to JS Building Co. to help open their newest Alabama location. JS Building Co. was assigned the task of bidding out and building the 3,200 square feet of first-generation space at Huntsville’s popular outdoor mall, Bridge Street.

With a 90-day completion schedule and an Owner under pressure to open for business, the contractor poured a new concrete slab for LVT and hard tile floors, and coordinated kitchen equipment installation that included indoor Big Green Egg grilles – a first for the City of Huntsville. Challenges included a tight workspace with minimal laydown and limited delivery windows. The contract also confined any construction that created noise and dust to hours before 9:30 am daily. Several weekends were required to meet and then beat the contract deadline.

The finished space had frosted glass partitions at seating and entrance areas, colored acoustical ceiling tiles on a 45-degree angle, and multiple sheetrock clouds. Stained shiplap wood paneling accent walls provided warmth. A unique feature of the restaurant is the garage doors with roll down screens to open up outdoor seating and dining space for indoor/outdoor in milder weather.
